HISTORY OF JULY 8

Here’s something you don’t see every day, and won’t see again for a while.

If you use the US-style of date reckoning, on July 8, 2009, at six seconds after 4:05 am, the date will be:

04:05:06 07-08-09

Our friends in the UK and other parts of Europe and the former British Commonwealth, for example, who reckon the date differently will miss out on all the fun… at least until 7 August, 2009. You won’t see anything like this happening until 3009 — a millennium as we historians like to say — or quite a wait.

Umm…did I miss something, or aren’t these going to happen before a millenium passes by?

Thanks for the comment Barry. Of course there will be incremental sequences in the future. What I meant was that this PARTICULAR sequence won’t reoccur for a millennium.

Thanks.

Fun. A few hours after it happened one of my friends pointed out that I missed 12:34:56 on 7/8/9, although I suppose the 2000 years in addition to the nine weakens the purity of the sequence.

Thanks so much for teaching us these last two Sundays. I look very forward to reading more of your history here. Blessings and best wishes,

Thomas
