Bio
Bill Petro is Senior Product Marketing Manager at Cisco Systems. He drives market adoption of products for the Cloud Management software and Self-service Catalog Portal portfolio at Cisco’s Cloud and Systems Management Technology Group. He drives the Sales Training Program from strategy to execution, developing the program, compiling the content and delivering in-person and webinar classes. He also directs the Go-To-Market Program for these products. Prior to this role he was Business Development Manager at Cisco’s Advanced Services for Data Center practice, specializing in Cloud Computing. He focused on long term strategic opportunities and early adopter solutions, exploring business involving cloud architecture and virtualization service solutions.
He is widely recognized as a marketing and technology leader, leveraging over two decades of marketing leadership at industry leading companies. With 9 years of experience at EMC and 11 years at Sun, along with four high-tech startups, he’s developed expertise in Cloud Computing, virtualization, networking, information infrastructure, data storage, social media and Web 2.0 technologies.
At EMC Corporation he served as Field Marketing Executive and Senior Sales & Partner Development positions and promoted their offering by building a unique value proposition and delivering it around the world. He trained sales reps and partner reps in how to identify and manage opportunities to improve forecasting and speed time to revenue. He enabled channel executives to strategize and prioritize initiatives with resellers to optimize mutual sales goals. As an in-demand speaker to executive-level customers he helped craft custom solutions for their business challenges. Prior to EMC he held executive Marketing, Business Development and Sales positions at two Internet startup companies.
While at Sun Microsystems, Bill held senior marketing positions in Product Management and International Marketing during which he helped rebrand the Solaris operating environment as he managed OS installation and file system technologies. He repositioned Sun’s Enterprise Management Software portfolio through a worldwide launch as he managed the storage management software product line. He also internationally launched Java Technology as well as desktop, server, and supercomputer product lines, advising the press and analysts.
Bill has been a featured speaker at numerous industry, government, university and technology events internationally, including: address at the JavaOne Conference, EMEA Java Day seminars, Singapore CIO Forums and Telcom Conferences, Latin America Telco Summits, government, military and education leaders in Beijing and Kuala Lumpur, Colorado Springs Celebrate Technology, Victoria BC Strategies for Public Sector Transformation, Asia Enterprise Computing Seminars and Network Business Seminars, Namibia Networkers Conference, Milan i2u UniForum, Universities in Colombia, Malaysia, and Taiwan, and Venture Capital briefings.
Bill has served on the Board of Advisors for the College of Business and Administration at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs as well as the Board of the Colorado Institute of Technology Transfer and Implementation (CITTI).
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of California, Berkeley and has done graduate work there and at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. He blogs on Technology Trends, Information Explosion, World Travel, Popular Culture, and History.
