What I’m Doing Now
Updated: June 24, 2026, from my home in Colorado Springs, in the Spring.
Here’s what I’m working on:
Writing Now
- I’m writing new articles and updating others to publish on the 250th Anniversary of America (signing of the Declaration of Independence)
- See the article publishing calendar at the bottom of the page.
Podcasting Now
- I have a parallel podcast series: “Friendly Neighborhood Historian,” which is available on all major podcast platforms. Here are the most recent ones:

Friendly Neighborhood Historian
Just enough history to inform, intrigue, and entertain. Short podcasts on the backstory of holidays, historical individuals, and historic anniversaries to learn enough to dazzle your friends and impress your family. Host: Bill Petro #History #Holidays
American Revolution: Reason and Religion
What part did the Enlightenment and the revival of the Great Awakening play in the American Revolution? Blog: https://billpetro.com/american-revolution-reason-and-religion #America-250 #AmericanRevolution #Independence #USA

Researching Now
- I’m researching several topics on “Thinking about Thinking.” The subtitle is “Journey of a Note-taker.” This will become a series of articles or a book — or both
- But I’ve been distracted by working on another series first: “AI for the non-Technical”, based on two and a half years of research I’ve done since the launch of ChatGPT. Not a tutorial or a how-to, it will cover the history (beginning, current state, and future direction), the pros and cons of AI, and the economic impacts of the advent of AI.
Outside Now
- Walking in the local park
- Tai Chi. I’m practicing it weekly (weakly?)
Travel Now
- Dreaming of my next destination.
